HealthSHIFT: Access & Empowerment is a collaborative initiative designed to help NHS leaders deliver on the three core shifts of the NHS 10 Year Plan — prevention and equitable access, digital enablement, and neighbourhood-based care. Bringing together leaders from across policy, clinical practice, digital transformation, and innovation, HealthSHIFT creates a dynamic space where challenges can be debated and solutions found.
This special initiative comprises three complementary forums:
- HSJ Care Closer to Home Forum: National and system-wide commissioners will come together with those delivering frontline primary and community care to navigate the challenges of the shift to neighbourhood health. Delegates will collectively shape new care models, contribute to strategies that prioritise prevention and admission avoidance, and help shape the implementation of initiatives that improve outcomes and system resilience.
- HSJ Reducing Health Inequalities Forum: Uniting clinicians, population health experts and system leaders to address the systemic barriers to equitable healthcare delivery. Delegates will explore how the 10-year plan’s strategic priorities will maximise data-informed decision-making, further advance the Core20PLUS5 initiative, and embed sustainable and equity-driven solutions into everyday practice.
- HSJ Digital Patient Empowerment Forum: A new event bringing together clinicians, digital leaders and transformation experts to leverage technology to enable true patient partnership. Delegates will discuss how digital tools, data, and services can empower individuals with the information and resources necessary to engage meaningfully with their health needs, while supporting systems to deliver more effective and sustainable models of care.
Overall themes across HealthSHIFT: Access & Empowerment
The three forums align as complementary pillars of the NHS 10 Year Plan’s transformation agenda, each addressing a different - but interconnected - dimension of shifting towards a preventative, equitable, and patient-centred health system
- HSJ Care Closer to Home Forum focuses on where care happens and tackles the structural and operational shift toward community-based, preventative care
- HSJ Reducing Health Inequalities Forum focuses on who receives care and ensures that the move to local and digital care models doesn’t widen disparities but instead drives fairness and inclusion.
- HSJ Digital Patient Empowerment Forum focuses on how care is accessed and experienced and provides the digital infrastructure and engagement needed to make the other two shifts effective and scalable.
Collectively they form a holistic model for modern healthcare - local, equitable, and digitally enabled.
Why now?
HealthSHIFT: Access & Empowerment is integral to the delivery of the 10 Year Plan’s three shifts: building local, preventative systems; ensuring those systems are fair and accessible to all, and giving patients and clinicians the tools to make both work in practice.
